Sassuolo will be keen to produce a resurgence in form on Sunday afternoon when they entertain the Serie A league leaders, AC Milan, as the hosts not only look to return to winning ways but also reduce the existing five-point deficit between the two clubs with a win at their MAPEI Stadium in this clash.
Not that Sassuolo have particularly struggled so far in this Italian top flight campaign, in fact, far from it, as the hosts have suffered just the one defeat so far this season in Serie A.
It came in the shape of a heavy 3-0 loss at home to the other club in Milan, Inter, towards the end of last month.
The hosts have since steadied the ship by gaining points in draws with Roma and Fiorentina, in 0-0 and 1-1 draws both of which were away from home, along with a 1-0 home win over Benevento last time out at their MAPEI Stadium.
Too many draws (5) though have seen Sassuolo lose ground on the teams above them and has resulted in the hosts dropping down to 5th place and having won just two of their last seven at home, this Sunday’s clash could be far from easy.
Onto AC Milan, and the visitors were held to a second 2-2 draw on the trot in Serie A on the weekend when they shared the points away at Genoa which followed a previous 2-2 draw with Parma, but nevertheless, AC Milan’s unbeaten run continued in the Italian top flight.
It’s been an impressive start to this new campaign as AC Milan are one of only two teams yet to taste defeat in the domestic top flight (Juventus are the other), and in actual fact AC Milan have picked up more points away from home than in their own backyard at their Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
The bigger picture shows that AC Milan are actually unbeaten in their last 24 matches overall in Serie A which is a very solid record indeed.
This has had a positive effect upon performances and results away from home too as the visitors have won five of their six away matches so far this season.
Victories at Crotone, Inter Milan, Udinese, Napoli and Sampdoria should give AC Milan plenty of confidence ahead of this Sunday’s clash especially as AC Milan are unbeaten in their previous eight meetings against Sassuolo, winning six of these encounters.
