In arguably one of the stand-out fixtures in this weekend’s Italian Serie A, 2nd placed Sassuolo take on 5th placed Inter Milan as both teams look to grab the all-important three points to further improve their respective situations near the summit of the domestic top flight.
It’s been a solid start to the new Serie A season for Saturday’s hosts, Sassuolo, as they occupy 2nd place and still remain unbeaten so far this term, so they’ll be in confident mood ahead of this mouthwatering clash.
Five wins and three draws within their eight matches played so far in this campaign have seen Sassuolo pick up wins against Spezia, Crotone, Bologna, Napoli and Hellas Verona while also picking up points in draws with Cagliari, Torino and Udinese.
However, the majority of Sassuolo’s success this season has actually been achieved away from home where they possess an excellent 100% winning record, while on home turf at their MAPEI Stadium, the hosts have won one and drawn three of their four matches played.
Inter Milan will need to dust themselves off after their midweek 2-0 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League as the visitors look to rekindle their previous form which saw Inter pick up 10 wins from 11 matches in all competitions towards the end of last season and the start of this new term.
The visitors made a bright start to this new Serie A season by recording back-to-back wins against Fiorentina and Benevento to hand manager, Antonio Conte, the perfect start to this new campaign but Inter have since struggled to maintain their early momentum.
Just two further wins have been collected by the visitors from their subsequent 10 matches in all competitions which came in the shape of an away win at Genoa and a home victory over Torino, who occupy second and third from bottom positions respectively on the Serie A table.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom where Inter Milan are concerned, especially away from home as the visitors still remain unbeaten on their travels having registered wins at Benevento and the aforementioned Genoa, along with picking up useful points in draws at 8th placed Lazio and 7th placed Atalanta.
To sum up, both Sassuolo and Inter Milan have similar records at home and away respectively and this could see them cancelling each other out here.
