Leeds United have the opportunity to leapfrog Arsenal in the Premier League table when the two sides clash at Elland Road on Sunday.

Leeds currently find themselves fifteenth in the standings on ten points – two points behind eleventh-place Arsenal.

Following a promising start to the campaign, Leeds have only managed to win one of their previous five league games.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side beat Aston Villa 3-0 at the end of October, but they have since suffered back-to-back 4-1 defeats against Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

Only a handful of teams have scored move Premier League goals than Leeds this term, yet their defensive record is the joint-worst in the division.

Bielsa’s men have managed to score 14 goals across their opening eight matches, but they have conceded 17 in reply.

There is no denying that Patrick Bamford has been the star of the show so far. The striker has racked up seven goals and two assists, including a hat-trick against Villa.

Meanwhile, Arsenal head into Sunday’s clash having lost three of their previous four Premier League outings.

The Gunners lost two Manchester City and Leicester before beating Manchester United, but they suffered a poor 3-0 defeat to Villa before the international break.

Despite enjoying almost 60% possession and notching up 13 shots, Mikel Arteta’s men only managed two attempts on target against Villa.

Arsenal boast the joint-second best defensive record in the league. However, they have netted just nine goals in eight games this season.

Only five sides have scored fewer Premier League goals than the Gunners in 2020/21, with four of those teams making up the current bottom four.

Head-to-head: Arsenal are unbeaten against Leeds in their last six meetings in all competitions and have only suffered one defeat in their previous nine.

The Gunners edged Leeds 1-0 in the FA Cup last term, although they have not faced each other in the top flight since 2003/04.

Team news: Kalvin Phillips remains absent for Leeds, while Rodrigo and Jamie Shackelton are doubts for Sunday.

Arsenal will be without new signing Thomas Partey. Pablo Mari, Gabriel Martinelli, Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac are all unavailable.

Leeds have proved that they can compete with the best teams in the division, but Arsenal’s head-to-head record in this fixture should give them the edge.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score. However, Arsenal are expected to come out on top and claim a narrow victory.
