Montenegro host Luxembourg on Tuesday night in the Nations League. The teams are in the forgotten about League C where the lower tier of European national teams compete.
Luxembourg head into matchday 4 of the UEFA Nations League chasing Montenegro. Tuesday night’s visitors took six points from their opening nine possible and could draw level with Montenegro at the top of Group 1.
Montenegro have been perfect in Group 1 play this season. They have nine points from nine possible. The Brave Falcons are yet to concede a goal in Group 1 play. They have scored five times with all three games ending in wins to nil.
On matchday 2, Montenegro defeated Luxembourg in Group 1 play, 1-0. Fatos Beciraj scored from the penalty spot in the third minute of second-half stoppage-time. The first game between the nations was rather evenly matched.
Luxembourg dominated the game in terms of possession by tallying 63% of the ball. But the sending off of Christopher Martins in the 84th minute for Luxembourg gave Montenegro the chance to go for the win. They got it 10 minutes later from the spot.
Luxembourg tallied 21 shots with seven landing on target. Montenegro registered 10 shots with five hitting target. The Brave Falcons were outplayed but still managed to get the win in the end.
Montenegro are unbeaten in five straight international games in all competitions. They are coming off of a weekend win versus Azerbaijan in the UEFA Nations League, 2-0. Monaco’s Stevan Jovetic and Igor Ivanovic scored on either side of halftime for the team to claim the win to nil.
Luxembourg are also coming off of a UEFA Nations League win. Danel Sinani scored twice in the first half to give Luxembourg a 2-0 victory against Cyprus.
Montenegro and Luxembourg have met twice previously in international play. The Brave Falcons claimed two wins in those two games against Luxembourg.
Over 30 places separate Montenegro and Luxembourg in FIFA’s world rankings. In spite of the gap, the two sides looked very evenly matched when they met on matchday 2. Tuesday night’s UEFA Nations League game should be similar.
Montenegro could concede for the first time in League C Group 1 play. Luxembourg were deserving of a point in their first meeting. They didn’t get it, but should on matchday 4. Expect a score draw between the two minnows of European international football.
