Friday night provides us with further action from the Spanish top flight as Eibar play host to Celta Vigo at their Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa with both teams looking to produce an improved campaign this time around.
Eibar ended their season on a low note after receiving a 4-0 thrashing away from home at Villarreal but they’d previously posted back-to-back wins against Espanyol 2-0 and a 3-1 home win over Real Valladolid, while on home turf, Eibar lost just one of their final five matches at their Estadio Municipal de Ipurúa.
Indeed, Eibar suffered just three defeats out of their last 11 matches on home soil and included wins against Granada, Atletico Madrid, Levante and Valencia - three of which finished in the top half of La Liga at the end of last season.
The hosts have also won the previous two encounters at home against Celta Vigo, by recording 2-0 and 1-0 wins respectively so they’ll be keen to continue this sequence on Sunday.
Celta Vigo finished last season’s La Liga campaign on the precipice of relegation as they were just one league position and one point above the bottom three and third from bottom outfit, Leganes, as the visitors avoided the drop by the skin of their teeth.
Of course, a seven-match sequence without a win to end their season didn’t help matters as Celta Vigo suffered defeats to Mallorca 5-1, Osasuna 2-1 and Levante 3-2, but it was the points they picked up along the way in draws with Barcelona, Real Betis, Atletico Madrid and Espanyol which helped save their bacon.
Celta Vigo more or less held their own at home with a record of W5 D8 L6 but they’ll need to improve upon their results away from home if they’re to avoid another relegation battle this term.
The visitors managed to collect just two away wins throughout the whole of last season in La Liga along with failing to score in eight of their 19 matches on their travels, while the bigger picture shows that Celta Vigo have won just two of their last 31 matches on the road in the Spanish top flight.

Eibar therefore finished last season in better shape and appear to hold the edge over their visitors in this clash.
