In the penultimate round of the 2019/20 Serie A season, Hellas Verona welcome already-relegated SPAL to the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on Wednesday.

Verona are sitting comfortably in ninth place, although they come into this game on the back of a 5-1 thrashing at the hand of Lazio.

In fact, Ivan Juric’s side have failed to win any of their previous seven league games. Four draws and three defeats have prevented the club from making a late charge for the Europa League places.

A nine-game unbeaten streak between December and February lifted Verona into the top six, but two wins in their previous 12 games have dashed their European dreams.

Still, thanks to their strong start to the season, Verona can still cap off their comeback campaign in Serie A with an admirable top-half finish.

On the other hand, SPAL have endured a season to forget. Luigi Di Biagio’s side are rock bottom of the table and are already preparing for life in the second tier.

SPAL have only managed to win five of their 36 league games this term and have claimed just one victory in their previous 16 outings.

A rare 1-1 draw with Torino last time out ended a run of six straight defeats, but SPAL were already relegated to Serie B a couple of weeks ago.

Head-to-head: Verona claimed a comfortable 2-0 win in the reverse fixture back in January, and it’s fair to say that they have enjoyed playing SPAL in recent years.

SPAL have only won one of their previous 11 meetings with Verona, with Verona claiming five victoires during that period.

However, it is worth pointing out that both teams have scored in eight of the last 11 meetings between these two sides.

Team news: Andrea Danzi and Marash Kumbulla are close to returning from injury for Verona, although Pawel Dawidowicz, Giampaolo Pazzini, and Claud Adjapong remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, SPAL will be without Etrit Berisha, Ervin Zukanovic, Lucas Castro, Mattia Valoti, and Sergio Floccari through injury.

Both teams have scored in each of Verona’s last six games, while both teams have scored in each of SPAL previous three outings.

Needless to say, there are likely to be goals at both ends of the pitch in this matchup. However, Forebet predicts that Verona will outscore lowly SPAL.
