Bologna sit in a comfortable mid-table position of 10th place in Serie A after a recent encouraging sequence of results which have helped lift Wednesday’s hosts well away from the threat of relegation.
The hosts have suffered just one defeat out of their last five matches overall which came in the shape of a 2-1 loss at home to Sassuolo but wins against Sampdoria and most impressive of all, a 2-1 win on the road at Inter Milan along with points picked up in draws with Cagliari and Parma have shown that Bologna are capable of picking up some impressive results.
Overall form throughout this Serie A campaign though has been frustrating as Bologna have been unable to sustain any lengthy sequence of results without a defeat and their current 10th place position reflects this.
At home, Bologna are without a win from their last four matches and given the pedigree of their visitors, the goals angle is worth exploring here as 13 of Bologna’s 16 matches at their Stadio Renato Dall’Ara have resulted with both teams scoring.
Napoli earned a vital point on the weekend with a 2-2 draw at home with a resurgent AC Milan outfit which extended Napoli’s unbeaten run to three matches and losing just once in their last nine matches overall in the Italian top flight, but they know they can’t afford to drop many more points with the likes of AC Milan and even Sassuolo knocking on the door.
The visitors still occupy 6th place but they too have aspirations of automatic qualification for the Europa League as they are within two points of 5th placed Roma, so there’s still plenty to play for in these latter stages of this season’s Serie A campaign.
Napoli also carry a serious threat on their travels too as the visitors have won five of their last six matches on the road having picked up important wins at Sampdoria, Cagliari, Brescia, Hellas Verona and Genoa.
They should be able to get a result at Bologna but the disappointing display at Atalanta recently suggests it may be better going with the goals angle in this one.
11 of Napoli’s 16 away matches have also seen both teams score and this could well be the case on Wednesday at Bologna too.
