While La Liga usually takes centre stage in the Spanish game, the second tier in Spain the Segunda is currently highly exciting at both ends of the table.
The fight for promotion is incredibly close. Two of the teams aiming to seal a spot in La Liga next season are Girona and Zaragoza, who meet on Friday evening.
Girona occupy the final play-off spot in the Segunda and now look unlikely to achieve automatic promotion to La Liga, but will still hope to win promotion this season.

A poor run of just one win in their last seven league matches has hampered the home teams’ chances of going up automatically. They are now nine points off the top two spots with just six league games remaining.
A 2-0 defeat at Malaga last time out means that Girona have now failed to score in four of their last five league outings, which could prove to be fatal in the home sides promotion hopes. They are now just a point clear of Alcorcon, who are seventh in the table.
Girona have still managed to maintain a decent recent home record despite their recent unconvincing league form, as they are unbeaten in seven home games in the Segunda. Two draws in their last three matches on home soil in the league have hindered their promotion hopes.
Zaragoza are second in the Segunda, two points behind leaders Cadiz, but just a point clear of third-place Almeria. A run of two wins and three defeats in their last five league outings have put their promotion chances in jeopardy. A 1-0 home defeat last time out against Huesca could prove to be a pivotal result.
The visitors recent away form has kept them in the automatic promotion spots. They are unbeaten in eight league games on their travels in the Segunda, having recorded five victories.
Forebet predicts that this game will end in a low-scoring draw, which would do neither team’s chances of promotion much good.
