In this their first ever season in the Belarus top flight, Saturday’s hosts, Rukh Brest, have adapted to life in the Vysshaya Liga reasonably well as the home side have lost just twice in their opening six matches of this new domestic top flight campaign.
Rukh Brest have so far managed to collect wins against Dinamo Minsk (a 1-0 win away from home on the opening day of the season) along with a 1-0 home win over FC Minsk, and although they suffered back-to-back defeats earlier in the season to Energetyk-BGU and BATE respectively, the hosts have since put together a three-match unbeaten run.
Points picked up in 0-0 draws with Slavia Mozyr and Torpedo Zhodino respectively (both away from home) have been either side of their aforementioned win against FC Minsk, and they’ll be hopeful that they can extend this unbeaten run at home against Gorodeya this Saturday.
However, a lack of goals could well hold Rukh Brest back this weekend as the hosts have managed to score just 2 goals in their opening 6 matches of this new season.
Gorodeya’s recent 3-match winning streak in the Vysshaya Liga was brought to an abrupt end last weekend when they were handed a 2-0 defeat at home by a fast-improving BATE outfit, but Gorodeya’s recent successes should still stand them in good stead when they make their way to Rukh Brest for this encounter.
The visitors had previously picked up wins against Belshina, Dinamo Minsk and Energetyk-BGU, all by 1-0 margins, so Gorodeya perhaps look the more likely out of these two teams to secure all three points in this clash.
That said, this encounter looks like being a low-scoring affair as all six of Gorodeya’s matches to date in this season’s Vysshaya Liga campaign have resulted in under 2.5 goals but the visitors have been in reasonable form on the road as well.
Gorodeya have suffered just 3 defeats out of their last 14 matches on their travels in the Belarus top flight and includes back-to-back wins captured at Belshina and Energetyk on the road in recent times.
Given Rukh Brest’s problems in front of goal, Gorodeya could well snatch the points this Saturday with a 1-0 win.
