Vitebsk face tough challenge from Dinamo Brest

Saturday’s hosts, Vitebsk, have made an encouraging start to their new Vysshaya Liga campaign after losing just once in their first four matches of this new Belarus top flight season, and this has resulted in the hosts occupying 6th place in the early standings.

An opening day 1-0 home win over Gorodeya saw Vitebsk off to a positive start but although they suffered defeat in their next match with a 2-0 loss on the road at Neman Grodno, Vitebsk have since bounced back with a win and a draw to steady the ship.

Vitebsk have had to play their last three league matches away from home and although they lost at Neman Grodno, they responded in positive fashion by recording a 1-0 win on the road at newcomers, Smolevichi, along with a solid point in a 1-1 draw with early high-fliers, Slutsk.

The hosts have therefore actually played just once at home so far this season which resulted in the aforementioned win against Gorodeya, but they’re expected to face stiffer competition in the shape of current Vysshaya Liga title holders, Dinamo Brest, on Saturday.

Onto Dinamo Brest, and the visitors seem to be getting back on an even keel following their recent 3-1 home win against Isloch Minsk in the last round of matches in the Vysshaya Liga, and this victory saw the visitors move up into 5th place on the domestic top flight table.

Dinamo Brest were held to a 1-1 draw at home by newcomers, Smolevichi, on the opening day of the season but they grabbed their first win of the new Belarus top flight season in the following match with a 1-0 win on the road at Slutsk.

A 2-1 defeat at home to Slavia though pegged the title holders back but again they responded in encouraging fashion as they secured a valuable 3-1 home win against Isloch Minsk to give them momentum going into this Saturday’s clash away from home at Vitebsk.

In addition, Dinamo Brest have produced some impressive results on their travels in recent times as the visitors are unbeaten in their last 17 matches on their travels, an impressive sequence of results which includes no fewer than 14 wins on the road.

Dinamo Brest will therefore fancy their chances of collecting another three points at Vitebsk this weekend.
