Cardiff City occupy 11th place in the Championship following their disappointing midweek 1-0 defeat at home to high-flying Nottingham Forest and The Bluebirds are now without a win in the Championship from their last three matches.

A 2-2 draw at home with Wigan Athletic has been followed by back-to-back defeats to Stoke City 2-0 away and the aforementioned 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, but Saturday’s hosts will be hopeful that they can bounce back with the visit of Brentford despite their visitors sitting in a more lofty position of 5th in the second tier.

Cardiff have lost just 1 of their last 9 matches on home turf at their Cardiff City Stadium while also picking up wins against Stoke City, Barnsley and most impressive of all, West Brom, as well as 5 draws (3 of which were score-draws against Millwall, Reading and Wigan Athletic).

In fact, Cardiff have been a tough team to beat at home in this Championship campaign as the hosts have lost just twice all season in their own backyard, and have failed to score in just 4 of their 17 home matches to date.

Onto Brentford, and The Bees dropped down to 5th place in the Championship following their midweek 2-1 defeat away from home at relegation-threatened Luton Town as their away-day achilles heel struck the London club once again.

With the exception of Preston North End, Brentford possess the worst away record of all the teams currently sitting in the top six of the Championship, and having now lost 8 matches on their travels so far in this campaign, Brentford have lost the most away matches of the teams in the play-off pack.

Overall, prior to the Luton defeat, Brentford had put together a 5-match unbeaten run under manager, Thomas Frank, but delve a little deeper and you’ll find that Brentford’s inconsistent streak usually only rears its ugly head on their travels as they’ve lost only 3 of their total of 11 defeats at Griffin Park.

Nevertheless, with the likes of forwards Watkins (22 goals), Mbeumo (12 goals) and Benrahma (10 goals) in their attacking personnel, Brentford still carry a serious goal-threat so the visitors stand a decent chance of at least hitting the back of the net here.

With Cardiff’s recent wobbles and Brentford’s inconsistency on the road, both teams look likely to score in this one.
