Sheffield Wednesday’s winning drought in the Championship continued on Saturday when they were held to a 3-3 draw bu Birmingham City at St Andrews which in turn extended their winless run in the second tier to 7 matches.
Indeed, the rot seems to have well and truly set in at the Yorkshire club as Wednesday have collected just 1 win out of their last 11 matches overall, which was a surprising 2-0 win away from home at Leeds United of all teams, but 7 defeats out of these last 11 matches could signal further problems for The Owls against Charlton.
Garry Monk’s side could be forgiven for having second thoughts about returning to Hillsborough for this upcoming clash as home advantage has been anything but in recent times as the hosts have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.

The goals market therefore appeals for this clash too, even though Sheffield Wednesday have failed to score in 4 of the last 5 at home, as previous battles against Charlton have seen both teams score in 8 of the last 9 meetings.
Onto Charlton Athletic, and Lee Bowyer’s side have produced something of a revival in recent times as The Addicks have won 3 of their last 5 matches in the Championship and this will give them confidence when they make their way up to Yorkshire on Wednesday night.
Recent wins against Barnsley, Nottingham Forest and Luton Town have helped lift Charlton away from immediate danger of relegation as the visitors now occupy 18th place on the Championship ladder and more importantly, hold a 5-point cushion above third from bottom club, Wigan Athletic.
However, results away from home have been poor and their win at Nottingham Forest was not only a complete shock but also ended a dismal run of 4 defeats on the trot and a miserable sequence of 12 matches without a win on the road in the Championship.
Backing an away win for Charlton would therefore seem a risky ploy, but nevertheless, goals have certainly featured on a regular basis when Charlton hit the road as 9 of their last 12 away matches have seen both teams score.
Both Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic have been poor at home and away respectively, but both could find the back of the net in this encounter.
