Millwall’s indifferent sequence of results in the Championship continued on the weekend when they were handed a disappointing 1-0 defeat away from home at Wigan Athletic and the host’s job doesn’t get any easier with the visit of Birmingham City to The Den on Wednesday night.
Millwall manager, Gary Rowett, will come up against one of his former clubs in this encounter as he looks to lift his side for the final push of this Championship campaign, having managed just 1 win out of their last 6 matches overall in the second tier.
That success came in the shape of a slightly surprising 1-0 win away from home at play-off candidates, Preston North End at Deepdale, but recent defeats to Leeds United, West Brom and Wigan Athletic have resulted in Millwall dropping down the Championship table to 11th place.

Wednesday night’s hosts had put together an encouraging record at The Den though this season and although they’ve lost just 3 of their 16 matches at home this term, The Lions are without a win from their last 2 matches on home turf.
Onto Birmingham City, and they’ll be facing another of one of their former managers for the second time in quick succession in Millwall’s Gary Rowett following their 3-3 draw at home with Sheffield Wednesday’s Garry Monk on the weekend.
The Blues once again showed their new-found character and resilience on Saturday to grab a point against Wednesday despite being 3-2 down, with Aston Villa loanee, Scott Hogan firing home an injury-time equaliser to extend Birmingham’s unbeaten run in the Championship to 8 matches, and 11 matches without defeat in all competitions.
Confidence is growing in the west midlands and Birmingham will make the trip down to the nation’s capital on Wednesday night with a promising string of results on the road too as The Blues are unbeaten in their last 5 matches on the road.
Wins collected at Luton Town, Bristol City and Barnsley along with points at Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough in 1-1 draws have helped lift Pep Clotet’s side away from the relegation fight and are now 11 points above third from bottom club, Wigan Athletic.
Interestingly, a third of Millwall and Birmingham’s matches combined have ended in a draw so far this season and with Millwall holding home advantage and Birmingham in solid form, this could end up being another stalemate at The Den.
