The Cowley brothers have made a positive impact at Huddersfield Town since their arrival in early September as they’ve helped steer The Terriers out of the bottom three in the Championship to the relative safety of 19th place on the second tier ladder.
The next job for manager Danny Cowley though is greater consistency in terms of results for the Yorkshire club as their recent results have produced wins against Hull City and QPR but they’ve also fallen to defeats against Barnsley and Fulham.
Nevertheless, Huddersfield now possess a valuable 6-point cushion over third from bottom club, Wigan Athletic, prior to these midweek matches in the Championship and with home advantage at their John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield will be fairly confident that they can take something from this encounter.

Cowley has certainly tightened things up though at the back as 8 of his 13 matches in charge at the John Smith’s Stadium have seen under 2.5 goals scored while 2 of the last 3 meetings against Cardiff City have been low-scoring matches and indeed have finished 0-0 on both occasions.
Onto Cardiff City and the visitors sit on the fringes of the play-off pack in the Championship in 8th place and just 4 points adrift of 6th placed Preston North End prior to their trip up to Yorkshire to face Huddersfield Town.
Cardiff secured all three points on the weekend with a 1-0 win away from home at Luton Town which in turn also extended The Bluebirds’ unbeaten run in the Championship to 5 matches, and they’ve also lost just once in their last 10 matches.
This sustained improved run of results has helped lift Cardiff City back into contention for a possible top six finish as they seek a swift return to the Premier League, but the majority of their solid work has been conducted on home turf at their Cardiff City Stadium.
With just 3 away wins throughout this campaign to date, Cardiff’s chances of all three points at Huddersfield may be in doubt as they’ve also been involved in a number of draws on the road this season - in fact, 7 of their 16 away matches have resulted in stalemate.
Cardiff’s 6-1 defeat at QPR in early January looks to be an anomaly and this clash looks likely to be heading for perhaps a low-scoring draw - perhaps 0-0 or 1-1.
