Hull City earned a valuable point in a 2-2 draw away at The Valley against Charlton Athletic and they’ll be hoping they can go one step better this Saturday afternoon when they return to their KCOM Stadium to take on Birmingham City.
Results have been a mixed bag for Hull City though in recent weeks as The Tigers have collected wins against Preston North End in an impressive 4-0 win and a 2-1 win over Stoke City, both of which were at home, but they’ve also fallen to defeats against Barnsley 3-1 and a 2-0 loss at Leeds United on the road.
Hull have produced an inconsistent season so far in the Championship and this is evident when looking at Hull’s record at home with 5 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats, although in recent times, the hosts have won 3 of their last 4 matches at the KCOM Stadium.
Grant McCann’s side have registered wins against Derby County, Preston North End and Stoke City and they also hold a good record against Birmingham City at home as The Tigers have won the last 5 meetings on the trot on home turf against The Blues.
Birmingham City were involved in a highly entertaining west midlands derby last weekend against West Brom but although The Blues held a 2-1 lead, Pep Clotet’s side were unable to hang onto their lead after Baggies manager, Slaven Bilic, made what proved to be an inspirational substitution.
Former Southampton striker, Charlie Austin, came off the bench to score a brace and The Baggies bagged the points.
Birmingham now face a tough trip up to North Humberside to take on a Hull City side who have held the upper hand in previous exchanges at their KCOM Stadium.
Back-to-back defeats to QPR and West Brom (both at St Andrews) makes this look an even tougher trip and along with just 1 win out of their last 8 matches overall in the Championship and 1 away win from their last 7 matches on the road, the visitors look set to have their work cut out in this clash.
Hull have produced some topsy-turvy results so far in this season’s Championship but the hosts look the more likely to walk away with the points in this one.
