Wolverhampton Wanderers host Tottenham Hotspur at Molineaux on Sunday seeking to push their unbeaten run to 12 games in the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team has been brilliant this term in the league and sit in six place on 24 points. Wolves are just five points back of the top four and have Chelsea in their sights.
Tottenham Hotspur also have Chelsea in their sights but the team’s last few match performances have been inconsistent. Despite Jose Mourinho arriving in north London, consistency has eluded Spurs.
Mourinho has led the team to four wins from six. However, their two losses (Manchester United and Bayern Munich) have shown the gap between Spurs and the top tier teams in the Premier League and Champions League.
Spurs’ league wins came against West Ham and Burnley, two teams in 13th place or lower in the division. On the face of it, Mourinho hasn’t actually turned Tottenham Hotspur around since taking over.
Last season, Spurs went to Molineaux and just came away with a 3-2 win. Spurs raced out to a 2-0 halftime lead only to concede twice in the second period. Harry Kane’s 61st-minute goal was the difference, however, giving Tottenham Hotspur the win.
Santo’s team returned the favour in their return fixture with a 3-1 win. The days of taking an easy three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers is over and Spurs will have difficulty leaving Molineaux with all three points.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defence hasn’t been as strong as last season. Nineteen of Wolves’ 29 matches have ended with both teams scoring. The Midlands team has played more matches than any Premier League side this term.
Santo has overseen 29 matches as of this writing and by the time Sunday’s game kicks off, Wolverhampton Wanderers will have competed once more in the Europa League.
Tottenham Hotspur have not travelled well in the league this term. They have taken just six points from 24 possible on the road. The team’s defence has conceded 16 times away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is out until later this season with a dislocated elbow. Meanwhile, back-up Michel Vorm is also on the sidelines injured. Ben Davies is ruled out through injury as well.
Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele are both fighting their ways back to full fitness ahead of the game. Wolverhampton Wanderers are without Willy Boly and Morgan White-Gibbs due to injury.
Sunday’s match should see goals go into the goals at Molineaux. The two sides will combine for over 2.5 goals for a third straight game as they both find the back of the net. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur will finish in a stalemate as neither find a winner.
