Crystal Palace heading for third straight win as Watford’s struggles continue

Watford are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table as they head into Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets have only managed win one of their 15 league games this season, while the Eagles are up to seventh following back-to-back victories.

Following Watford’s 2-1 defeat to Southampton, manager Quique Sanchez Florez was sacked after less than three months in charge. Hayden Mullins oversaw the away trip to the King Power Stadium in midweek, but little changed as Leicester ran out 2-0 winners.

It’s been an extremely disappointing 2019/20 campaign so far for the Hornets – who are already searching for their third permanent manager of the season.

Watford are the division’s lowest scorers with just nine goals to their name. The struggling club also boast the third-worst defensive record in England’s top-flight, having conceded 30 goals – at an average of two goals per game.

On the other hand, only four teams have conceded fewer goals than Crystal Palace this season. Roy Hodgson’s side have been solid at the back, but it’s at the other end of the pitch where the team must improve.

The Eagles’ tally of 14 goals is the lowest of any team in the top-half of the table, and Palace have not scored more than two goals in any of their 15 league games this term.

Despite their lack of goals, Hodgson’s men come into this game on the back of impressive wins over Burnley and Bournemouth. Palace also pushed league-leaders Liverpool all the way last month – proving they’ve got what it takes to compete with the division’s top side.

Palace currently sit sixth in the away table, while they are down in twelfth place in the home table. The Eagles’ strength on the road will be a worry for Watford.

The Hornets have been hampered by injuries this season. Craig Dawson, Daryl Janmaat and Christian Kabasele are set to return soon, but Danny Welbeck, Tom Clevery and Sebastian Prodl are all set for lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson will not be able to call upon the service of Mamadou Sakho following the defender’s red card in the previous round. Important defender Gary Cahill could return to the starting eleven after recovering from a knee problem.

Things don’t look promising for Watford this weekend. They are in desperate need of a victory, while Palace can make it three wins on the bounce.

Forebet predicts that Watford will fail to score as Crystal Palace cruise to victory at Vicarage Road.
