Group D of qualifying for Euro 2020 has emerged as one of the tightest heading into the penultimate games of qualifiers. One of the teams hoping to book their place at next year’s European Championships is Denmark, who host Gibraltar on Friday night.

The hosts are currently level on points with second-place Ireland, who have crucially played an extra game than the Scandinavians. Third-place Switzerland are also just a point behind having played the same amount of games as Denmark.

However, Age Hareide’s side has a big advantage in the fact that they play group whipping boys Gibraltar. Denmark are unbeaten in seven qualifiers dating back to 2015. They have also won three of their last four games in qualification for the European Championships.

Last time out, the home side recorded a potentially crucial 1-0 home win over qualification rivals Switzerland. The victory saw Denmark keep a third straight clean sheet in qualifying.

Denmark head into this clash on the back of just one home defeat in their last 14 qualifiers, having recorded ten wins. With the visitor’s awful record in the international game, it seems unlikely that the hosts stellar home record will be dented.

Gibraltar have had a tough entrance to the international game. The visitor’s qualification record for the European Championships reflects that tough start to life on the international football scene.

In fact, Gibraltar have lost all 16 of their qualifiers for the European Championships since making their debut in qualifying in 2014. They have also lost 24 of their last 27 international games.

One of Gibraltar’s biggest problems is conceding too many goals, as they have conceded at least two goals in their last five qualifiers. Their efforts at the other end of the pitch have not been much better, though, as they failed to score in seven of their last eight qualifiers. However, things may be looking up, as they scored twice against Georgia in 3-2 defeat last time out.

Forebet predicts that Denmark will record a comfortable victory in a high-scoring encounter that will keep the Scandinavians on course to qualify for Euro 2020.
