Millwall could grab at least a point against beleaguered Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town’s downward-spiralling campaign in the Championship continued last weekend when they suffered a 4-2 defeat away at West Brom which became Huddersfield’s seventh loss in eight matches in this new Championship season.

It’s now six defeats on the trot for The Terriers, and whilst they showed signs of progress under new manager, Danny Cowley, as they twice took the lead against West Brom, they were too easily pegged back and in the end were over-run by a superior Baggies outfit, which left the Yorkshire club bottom of the Championship.

Defeats to Fulham, Cardiff City, Reading, Luton Town, Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom make this upcoming clash at home with Millwall an even more tense encounter as the hosts are becoming increasingly more desperate to get some points on the board.

In addition to four defeats on the trot on home turf at the John Smith’s Stadium is the fact that Huddersfield Town have managed to score just 2 goals in front of their own fans but have conceded a total of 8 goals in reply, and Cowley’s first task will be to make his new side a much harder team to beat by shoring up the defence.

Millwall occupy 16th place in the early Championship league standings and despite making an impressive start to the new campaign in the early stages, Millwall have also seemingly returned to type as they make their way up north without a win from their last five matches in the second tier.

Early home wins against Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday along with a point against West Brom by holding them to a 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns gave manager Neil Harris and his side a solid start to the new season.

However, defeats to Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and QPR have resulted in The Lions dropping down the table to 16th place, but the visitors did manage to grab a point in a 1-1 draw away at Middlesbrough recently.

Given Huddersfield’s current situation though and the distinct possibility that their confidence has probably now hit rock-bottom, Millwall stand more than just a reasonable chance of grabbing at least a point here, and indeed could well spring a surprise, especially if they can keep Huddersfield quiet in the first 30 minutes or so.
