Minnesota United play host to San Jose Earthquakes at their Allianz Field as the hosts look to follow up their emphatic 7-1 thrashing of poor Cincinnati last time out on home turf.

Minnesota had previously suffered a 3-match losing streak beforehand which included defeats to Atlanta United, Philadelphia Union and Colorado Rapids - the first two defeats being against two of the top four clubs sitting in the Eastern Conference.

The hosts return to home turf though for Wednesday night’s encounter with San Jose Earthquakes, where they’ve lost just 1 out of their 8 matches in their own backyard so far in this season’s MLS.

That solitary defeat was to Eastern Conference league leaders, Philadelphia Union, but recent wins against Columbus Crew, Houston Dynamo and Cincinnati should give Minnesota plenty of confidence of getting something out of this clash.

The hosts also possess some key attacking personnel in the shape of midfielder Gregus (6 assists) along with forwards Quintero and Rodriguez (5 goals apiece), and they’ll be looking to ensure Minnesota add to their points tally in this one.

San Jose Earthquakes sit just one league position and one point above their Wednesday night’s hosts, Minnesota United, in the Western Conference as they prepare for their trip to Allianz Field.

The visitors have also posted a solid sequence of results of late as they bring a 6-match unbeaten run into this encounter which includes wins against Chicago Fire, Toronto, Houston Dynamo and LA Galaxy - the latter two being back-to-back wins on home turf at their Avaya Stadium.

However, 3 of these 4 wins were recorded on home turf while results away from home have been extremely poor by comparison.

San Jose have registered just 1 away win out of their last 12 matches on the road in the MLS, which was the aforementioned 2-1 win at Toronto, but 8 defeats within this miserable 12-match sequence on their travels doesn’t bode well for tonight’s clash at Allianz Field.

That said, San Jose are still a dangerous customer as they too possess some key attacking threats in the shape of midfielders Salinas (5 goals, 3 assists) and Qazaishvili (4 goals) along with leading goalscorer, Wondolowski (8 goals).

Both Minnesota United and San Jose Earthquakes therefore possess serious goal threats and both should score here as a result.
