Africa Cup of Nations Group E is wide open as all four teams can still progress to the knockout round.

Tunisia goes into their final group game with two points from a possible six. A draw could be enough to see the Tunisians into the knockout round. Mauritania are bottom of Group E having claimed just one point from six.

Mauritania can still finish second in Group E but will need to win against Tunisia and hope Angola cannot defeat Mali. They will need to improve in all areas if they hope to beat Tunisia, however.

Manager Corentin Martins’ team has scored just one goal while conceding four times. Mauritania were outplayed by Mali in their first match of the tournament and lost 4-1. Their only goal came from the penalty spot courtesy of Hacen.

A dull nil-nil draw against Angola followed as Mauritania managed seven shots with zero landing on target.

Since last summer’s World Cup, Tunisia have played 12 times in all competitions. They are unbeaten in nine of those 12 matches.

Tunisia claimed a 1-1 draw with Angola to kick off the Africa Cup of Nations. They followed it up with a second 1-1 draw against Mali. Tunisia are currently ranked 25th in the world by FIFA, however, they have not shown themselves worth the rating.

Goals have been hard to come by at the Africa Cup of Nations. After 53 matches, there has been an average of 1.89 goals per game. Eighteen of the 53 matches at the tournament have finished in a victory to nil. Three additional games have ended nil-nil.

Tunisia have never lost to Mauritania in 11 matches. The Tunisians have posted a 9W-2D-0L record against Mauritania dating back to 1963.

The two African nations have not played since 2016 when they clashed in a friendly. That game ended nil-nil.

Tunisia desperately need points to advance to the knockout stage. Striker Wahbi Khazri tallied a goal against Mali to lead the Tunisians back for the draw. He will be vital in front of goal for Tunisia.

Mauritania striker Bessam, who has 12 career international goals, did not start against Angola but could get the nod on Tuesday. Striker Adama Ba did find the back of the net against Angola and could be preferred up top.

Tunisia have failed to hit their stride in the Africa Cup of Nations group stage. They could continue to struggle against Mauritania as the match sees under 2.5 goals scored and both teams find the back of the net.
