Chapecoense and Fluminense Hope to Move Away from the Relegation Zone

Chapecoense and Fluminense Hope to Move Away from the Relegation Zone

There are four games in the 2019 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A on Friday 14th June.  One of them features two teams in the bottom half of the table as Chapecoense welcome Fluminense to the Arena Condá in Chapecó.

This is a game both teams want to win in order to move away from the drop zone and they have been closely matched this season.  Chapecoense start the week in 16th place with 7 points from their eight games and that leaves them one place above the relegation zone.  Fluminense have the same number of points but a superior goal difference by one goal and they are in 15th place.

Chapecoense come into this game fresh off a 3-1 loss at Goias on Tuesday night. They were level at 1-1 at the interval but conceded two goals late in the second half and left with nothing to show for their efforts.

That’s nothing new for Chapecoense in recent weeks and they have lost five of their last seven games in all competitions, winning just one.  The victory came in Serie A at Cruzeiro a couple of weeks ago while the draw, which was also in the league, came at home.

Trends show Chapecoense have won one of their last seven league games and have lost four of their last five.  They have been entertaining to watch and trends show both teams have scored in each of their last seven Serie A matches.

Fluminense last played on Sunday in Serie A and they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Flamengo. That result means Fluminense have failed to win any of their last five games in all competitions.

Prior to the draw with Flamengo, Fluminense lost four games in succession with the defeats coming against Bahia and Athletico Paranaense in Serie A, Atletico Nacional in the Copa Sudamerica and Cruzeiro on penalties in the Copa do Brasil.

Fluminense have won one of their last five league games and that came at home.  Trends show they have won just three of their last twenty-one away Serie A matches and have lost eight of the last nine.  Fluminense have seen over 2.5 goals in nine of their last eleven league games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Chapecoense are without Douglas who is serving a suspension.  Yann Rolim has a long term injury so will miss out plus there are doubts over the fitness of several players including Victor Andrade, Kendy Tateishi Berbel-Japa, Moises Ribeiro and Neto.

Fluminense travel without the injured duo of Bruno Silva and Léo Santos.  They also have a group of players struggling to make it, including Gilberto, Rodolfo, Matheus Ferraz and Yony González.

This could be a good game to watch, with both teams finding the back of the net and Chapecoense the favourites to emerge as the victors.
