We have reached the final weekend of the French Ligue 1 season. We have known the name of the champions for some time but there are still some issues to solve elsewhere, including relegation.

On Friday 24th May, Caen host Bordeaux knowing they need to win to have any chance of avoiding the bottom three.

Caen come into this game having lost 4-0 away to Lyon last weekend. It was not a game they were expected to win but the result still came as a blow and their place in the relegation playoffs is now out of their hands.

Prior to the loss in Lyon, Caen had been doing well and trends show they won three and drawn one of their previous four Ligue 1 matches. There were wins over Dijon and Reims at home plus Nice away.

They have won each of their last two home league games but the overall home form has been poor. Caen have lost six of their last nine on home soil. Scoring goals at home has been a problem and prior to the 3 goals they got against Reims in their last home game Caen have netted 3 goals in eight matches.

Trends show Caen have seen under 2.5 goals in six of their last eight games.

Bordeaux have been in free fall and their recent form has been dreadful. Trends show they have suffered six straight defeats in the league and while they cannot get relegated, their results have been very poor.

There have been three defeats at home against Lyon, Angers and Reims plus three losses on the road at St Etienne, Nimes and Lille.

Trends show Bordeaux have won just one of their last fifteen away games and that came at Angers back in January. They have lost seven of their last nine league games on the road and have failed to score in six of those defeats.

Bordeaux have seen under 2.5 goals in seven of their last nine away Ligue 1 matches.

Looking ahead to the team news and Caen are without the injured Aly N’Dom. There are also doubts over the fitness of Malik Tchokounte, Romain Genevois and Ismael Diomande.

Bordeaux are definitely without the injured trio of Aurelien Tchouameni, Andreas Cornelius and Josh Maja. Igor Lewczuk could make a return from a heel problem.

Caen need to win this game and possibly could not have asked for a better opponent to play at home. Bordeaux have forgotten how to win and Caen could come away with a narrow win and under 2.5 goals.
