Goteborg to leapfrog Malmo in the Swedish top-flight table

On Thursday night, Goteborg host Malmo in a big early season clash in the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Goteborg are currently third-place in the fledgeling table, just a point behind the visitors who currently top the table. A victory would see the home side move to the top of the Allsvenskan, leapfrogging Hammarby and the visitors.

The home side started their league campaign with two defeats and one victory. However, they are now unbeaten in five Allsvenskan matches, having recorded four wins.

A 2-1 win at Norrkoping last time out means that the home side has now won three straight matches, scoring at least two goals in all three wins. Their league games have been high-scoring this season, as there have been over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last eight outings.

Goteborg have won their first three home games of the league campaign, scoring three goals in each of the victories, beating Elfsborg, AIK and Helsingborg. However, they have won just one of their last six meetings with Thursday night’s opponents.

After failing to win in their opening two league games, Malmo are now unbeaten in six league matches, having recorded five wins in the process.

Last time out the visitors recorded a second straight league win by beating Elfsborg 4-1. The result means that both teams have now scored in Malmo’s last four league outings.

Malmo has a slightly mixed recent away record in the Swedish Allsvenskan, but they have won just three of their last eight league matches on their travels dating back to last season. Despite a recent inconsistent run of form in away games, Malmo have scored in their last 14 matches on their travels in the Allsvenskan.

Forebet predicts that Goteborg will record a victory in a high-scoring and entertaining clash to move to the top of the Allsvenskan table.
