Norwich City could secure promotion with win over Sheffield Wednesday
    18/04/19 2006

Should Sheffield United lose at home to Nottingham Forest and Norwich City beat Sheffield Wednesday in Good Friday’s evening kick-off, then Norwich will confirm promotion to the Premier League in what would be an extremely good Friday for The Canaries.

Although Norwich City have been held to back-to-back draws with lowly Reading and Wigan Athletic in 2-2 and 1-1 stalemates respectively, the hosts have extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to 10 matches overall, as The Canaries continue to close in on promotion to the Premier League.

Norwich possess a four point cushion ahead of 2nd placed Leeds United and seven points ahead of 3rd placed Sheffield United, and having racked up six wins from their last eight matches at Carrow Road, the hosts look set to grab all three points in this clash.

The Canaries have also produced attacking and free-scoring displays at home which has netted the hosts a total of 47 goals to date with striker Teemu Pukki (27 goals) cashing in, but the impact of the likes of goalscoring midfielders Buendia, Stiepermann, Vrancic and Hernandez certainly shouldn’t be underestimated.

15 of Norwich’s 21 home matches have seen the hosts score 2 goals or more.

Sheffield Wednesday now occupy 10th place in the Championship after making solid and steady progress under the guidance of manager Steve Bruce since he replaced former coach, Jos Luhukay, as The Owls have lost just two of their last 15 matches overall in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday have also suffered just two defeats from their last 10 matches away from home which were losses at Hull City and Leeds United - the latter being a Yorkshire local derby on Saturday, but The Owls have also drawn five and won three.

Manager Steve Bruce has certainly steadied the ship and has tightened up Sheffield Wednesday’s defensive unit, but can they match the attacking firepower of Norwich City in this clash at Carrow Road.

With just 7 of their 21 away matches seeing 2 goals or more for The Owls, it seems they’ll be up against it here to keep up with the free-scoring Canaries on Good Friday, and ambitions of a play-off place may just have to wait until next season.

Norwich City are now so close to promotion and they should take the spoils against Wednesday here.
