Can Cardiff Continue Mini Revival?

    Can Cardiff Continue Mini Revival?

The Premier League resumes after a break for the FA Cup last weekend and one of the two matches to be played on Friday night is between Cardiff City and Watford.  The match will take place at the Cardiff City Stadium in South Wales.

Cardiff City begin the game sitting one place outside the relegation zone. They are 1 point ahead of Southampton who are in 18th place and level on points with Newcastle United, who are one place above them in the table.

Watford start the weekend in 8th place and have a great chance of finishing 7th this season.  To do so, they will need to win games like this.

Cardiff City will be feeling confident ahead of this game having won their previous two matches.  They defeated Bournemouth 2-0 at home before travelling to Southampton for a crucial match last time out and coming away with a 1-0 victory, which was huge for the club.

However, those two wins are the only victories recorded by Cardiff City in their last seven competitive games and they have won four of their last twelve.

The Bluebirds have been picking up points at home in the Premier League and have won five of their last nine on home soil.  There have been victories over Fulham, Brighton and Hove Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton and Bournemouth.

Trends show Cardiff City score an average of 0.89 goals per game this season and they have failed to score in two of their last three home matches.

Watford are playing on a Friday night for the second weekend in succession having defeated Queens Park Rangers 1-0 in the FA Cup last week. That results means Watford have won five of their last eight games in all competitions and have lost just once in their last ten, which is a good record.

The Hornets have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three matches and four in their last six games away from home.  However, Watford have won only one of their last four Premier League matches which was last time out against Everton at home.  They lost 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur and were held to draws at home against Burnley and away to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Trends show Watford have seen under 2.5 goals in their last three games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Cardiff City are still without injured defender Sean Morrison while Jazz Richards remains a doubt.  Oumar Niasse is expected to lead the attack with support from Bobby Reid.

Watford are without Kiko Femenia and Isaac Success who are injured.  Jose Holebas is suspended and there are doubts over the fitness of Sebastian Prodl and Roberto Pereyra.

Cardiff City fans will be feeling good ahead of this match but Watford have been tough to beat recently.  Expect a tight game, with the away team having the quality to come away with a low scoring win.
