Leverkusen In Search for Second Back-to-Back Victory

Leverkusen In Search for Second Back-to-Back Victory

Despite the protest of German football fans, Monday night football will continue this season and this week we have a match between Nurnberg and Bayer Leverkusen.

This will be the final game of the weekend in the Bundesliga and both teams will know what a win will do to their position in the table.  Nurnberg could find themselves in the relegation zone come kick-off and the pressure will be on for them to win.

Bayer Leverkusen could be anywhere from 11th to 14th and their hope will be a win will take them into the top half of the table.

Nurnberg come into this match on the back of a heavy defeat at the hands of Schalke last weekend. They lost 5-2 away to a team who have been performing below expectations this season and that result means Nurnberg have failed to win any of their last six games in the Bundesliga.

There have been four defeats and two draws in that run of six matches, with one of those draws coming at home against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Trends show Nurnberg have seen over 2.5 goals in six of their last eight games and keeping a clean sheet has been a big problem for them this season.  Nurnberg have conceded two or more goals in five of their last six Bundesliga matches and six goals in their last three home games.

Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Bulgarian club Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday night, but it did not matter as the German club advanced to the knockout stages of the competition.

That result means Bayer Leverkusen have lost one of their last four matches but have picked up just one win in the Bundesliga during that period which was at home against Stuttgart last weekend.  However, form has been so inconsistent in the league this season that only once have Bayer Leverkusen managed to string two Bundesliga wins together.

Away from home in all competitions, Bayer Leverkusen have been exciting to watch and trends show they have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight matches.  They have lost one of their last four away Bundesliga games but suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig last time out.

Looking ahead to the team news and Nurnberg have doubts over the fitness of defender Enrico Valentini and midfielder Eduard Lowen who have a thigh and knee injury respectively.  Full-back Robert Bauer is suspended.

Bayer Leverkusen are set to be without Finish striker Joel Pohjanpalo who has an ankle injury and is yet to feature at all this season.  He is the only unavailable player for Heiko Herrlich.

Bayer Leverkusen will see this game as the perfect opportunity to pick up two wins on the bounce in the Bundesliga for only the second time this season.  The match should see goals and we could see both teams scoring and an away win.
