Mexico, who will be one of the hosts for the World Cup in a few years time, have not started well in their preparations for doing so.
They now head into the final group stage game with Ecuador outside of the top two automatic knockout qualification places.

Last time out, Mexico lost 1-0 to Venezuela after Salomon Rondon scored a penalty in the second half of the game, as Mexico had just five shots on target and 18 efforts towards goal, in contrast to the two shots on target from Venezuela and 10 efforts on goal as well. Mexico also had 62% of the ball possession.
Before this, however, Mexico did manage to get a win on the board and give themselves hopes of getting into the next round.
This victory saw them defeat Jamaica thanks to a finish from Gerado Arteaga, as the Mexicans had 20 shots on goal and also had nine efforts on target as well. They also had 62% of the ball.
The form at these group stages at Copa America is a reflection of how things have gone in the past few months for Mexico.
