Germany have already booked their place in the last 16. This weekend, Switzerland will aim to punch their ticket to the knockouts.

The neighbouring nations will meet at Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park on Sunday evening, with first-placed Germany leading second-placed Switzerland by two points in Group A.

Germany boast a 100% record ahead of Matchday 3, having scored seven goals (3.5 goals per game) while conceding on just one occasion.

Following a 5-1 thrashing of Scotland in the opening match of the tournament, the hosts claimed a 2-0 victory over Hungary on Wednesday.

After racking up 73% possession and 20 shots against Scotland, Germany registered 70% possession and 19 shots against Hungary, highlighting their dominance on home soil.

As a result, Julian Nagelsmann’s side will be confident of making it three wins from three and cruising into the knockout phase as Group A winners.

Meanwhile, Switzerland kicked off their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Hungary before playing out a 1-1 draw with Scotland on Wednesday.

After registering 15 shots against Hungary, the Swiss were frustrated by the stubborn Scots, who chalked up 12 goal attempts in Cologne.

Still, Switzerland carry a six-game unbeaten streak into Sunday’s clash, having picked up three wins and three draws since their last loss, which came back in November 2023.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Swiss have suffered a solitary defeat in their previous 16 matches across all competitions, so they will back themselves to cause an upset.

Head-to-head: Germany and Switzerland met twice in the Nations League back in 2020, playing out a 1-1 draw in Basel before serving up a 3-3 draw in Cologne.

In terms of the wider H2H statistics, the Germans have lost just one of their previous 21 meetings with the Swiss across all competitions, including friendlies.

Team news: Germany have reported no injury problems ahead of Sunday’s clash, although Nagelsmann could mix up his team with a place in the last 16 already secured.

On the flip side, there are question marks over the availability of Switzerland trio Denis Zakaria (thigh), Steven Zuber (calf) and Fabian Schar (nose).

Although Germany boast a 100% record after two games, Switzerland will be confident of maintaining their unbeaten record at the tournament.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Germany and Switzerland will play out a low-scoring stalemate, producing a third consecutive draw between the teams.
