The main reason for its magnitude is not just how close the two are in the table but because of how AC Milan's lead in third is five above Bologna and seven above Atalanta.
Ultimately, this means there are only two points keeping Atalanta and Bologna apart from one another, with the Bergamo outfit sitting on 46 points and the other on 48.
What's more, Bologna have lost only four games this season, which is even one less than Milan's tally, while Atalanta have managed to lose on eight different occasions, including a 4-0 thumping from AC Milan during the week.
Milan also drew with them 1-1 last weekend, meaning two trips to the San Siro within a week ended winless.
The last win for Atalanta in their pursuit of a spot back in the Champions League after two seasons without it saw Mario Pasalic, Teun Koppmeiners and Mitchel Bakker all get a goal each in the 3-0 win over Sassuolo.
The Bergamo side also managed to smash Genoa 4-1 before that, as Davide Zappacosta stunningly scored in the 100th minute of the game before El Bilal Toure netted in the 113th minute. Koopmeiners and Charles De Ketelaere also scored.
Atalanta’s fantastic winning run throughout the start of the year also saw them defeat Lazio 1-0, Udinese 2-0 and Frosinone 5-0, while they even won at the San Siro against Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.
As for Bologna, this is unquestionably their best season in many, many years in Serie A. There is now a genuine chance of the club getting into the Champions League for next season, should form continue for them.
Bologna have won their past five in a row, defeating Hellas Verona, Lazio, Fiorentina, Sassuolo and Lecce.
Forebet now predicts a draw here and over 2.5 goals, given the trends of many goals in their respective games and how close the two Champions League hopefuls are in the table.
