This now puts them behind Atalanta in fourth by two points and with a gap of only one point on Roma in fifth, while they also have a game in hand over that team.
In terms of mathematics, the Florence side are now sitting with 10 wins and seven losses from the 21 outings, although only Inter, Juventus, Bologna, Torino and Atalanta have better defensive record this season.
It has been a tough ride for Fiorentina in the past few weeks. They lost to Sassuolo at the start of the year at the Mapei Stadium and were also beaten by Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals 3-0 just over two weeks ago.
This means their Coppa Italia quarter-final win over Bologna is their only win in 2024 so far.
Worse yet, that victory was on penalties after a 0-0 draw, meaning no win in regular or extra time this calendar year just yet.
Nevertheless, it's still been an excellent campaign for Fiorentina at a time where nobody predicted they would challenge for the top four.
They also have a two-legged semi-final affair with Atalanta in the Coppa Italia to look forward to at the start of April.
Because of the poor form shown in 2024 to this point, Fiorentina's last win in Serie A was over Torino back at the end of December, which came as part of three 1-0 wins in a row over them, Monza and Hellas Verona.
As for Lecce, the probability of them winning this game is much lower, due to their spot down in 14th.
Lately, the club have put together a three-game losing run after defeats to Lecce, Juventus and Genoa in the league, scoring only against Genoa in this period in a 2-1 loss.
A further 1-1 draw with Cagliari means the last win for Lecce came all the way back in mid-December as they narrowly defeated Frosinone.
Such results keep them above the relegation zone by only two points.
