Last weekend Tottenham hammered League One Millwall 6-0 to reach the FA Cup semi-final. It should have been regarded as a good day's work. However, there was a major negative that Spurs took away from the game in an ankle injury sustained by top scorer Harry Kane early in the game.
It has since emerged that Kane will miss four to six weeks. The news is a massive blow to the side from north London who will still have slight hopes of catching league leaders Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table.
On Sunday Mauricio Pochettino’s side face midtable Southampton at White Hart Lane. Spurs are currently second and ten points behind league leaders Chelsea. However, they could fall further behind in the title race, with Chelsea travelling to Stoke on Saturday.
Tottenham will need to overcome the loss of Kane and hope that he returns to action for the late season run-in. In his absence, versatile South Korean international Heung-min Son is likely to start up front.
The forward scored a hat-trick against Millwall last time out and will be looking to fill the giant gap left by Kane’s absence. Tottenham will still be confident of winning this game, though, as the side from north London have won their last nine games on home soil in the Premier League.
Pochettino’s side have also scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine home games in the Premier League.
Southampton are now tenth in the table and seem to have overcome their previous poor run of form, having recorded consecutive Premier League wins. Their recent league games have been high-scoring with over 2.5 goals scored in their last five games.
Their away form in the top-flight has not been great, as they have won just three of their last 11 outings. However, they have won their last two away games in the league, so the Saints seem to have turned their form around.
However, Forebet predicts that the Saints recent good run of form will end at White Hart Lane, with a Tottenham victory.
