Cadiz to start La Liga season against newly-promoted Alaves

Cadiz and Deportivo Alaves are expected to battle relegation this season in La Liga. Alaves earned promotion from the Segunda last season and are fighting to hang on to their top-flight status.

Manager Luis Garcia took charge of Alaves in the summer of 2022 and immediately led Alaves to promotion.

Deportivo have been active in the transfer market to bolster the squad ahead of La Liga’s start.

Alaves have signed midfielder Antonio Blanco from Real Madrid, Ander Guevara from Real Sociedad, Rafa Marin from Real Madrid, and Giuliano Simeone from Atletico.

Luis Rioja led Alaves in goals last season in the Segunda with 10. The club was able to retain the right-winger for this season.

Cadiz finished 14th last term, with 42 points. The Yellow Submarine only ended the campaign two points ahead of the relegation zone.

Cadiz’s work in the transfer market has been modest. The club signed left-wing Darwin Machis, midfielder Gonzalo Escalante, left-back Javi Hernandez, and striker Sergi Guardiola in the offseason.

Last season Cadiz recorded the second-most draws in La Liga, with 12. The Yellow Submarine should start the new campaign with a 1-1 stalemate at home against newly-promoted Alaves.
