On Monday night, Atletico Madrid kick-off their 2023/24 La Liga campaign as they welcome Granada to the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.

Diego Simeone’s team finished third place in La Liga last season after a topsy-turvy campaign in the Spanish top flight.

The men from Madrid ended last season with an inconsistent run of league form, although they were unbeaten in the last four matches of the campaign in the Spanish top flight.

Atletico has strengthened their squad with the signings of Cesar Azpilicueta, Javi Galan and Caglar Soyuncu and finally completed the permanent transfer of French attacking star Antoine Griezmann.

Granada finished their 2021/22 season in La Liga with a mixed run of form, although they suffered just one defeat in their final six games.

One of their main weaknesses in their last spell in the Spanish top-flight was away form, as they won just two of their previous 13 league games on their travels.

The visitors have improved their squad with the signings of Jesus Vallejo, Shon Weissman, Wilson Manafa and Gonzalo Villar.

Granada experienced a positive pre-season campaign, winning four of their five games in the summer, with the only blip being a 1-0 defeat by Almeria in their last game.
