Brazil Likely to Batter Panama on Matchday One

Brazil will look to kick off their Women’s World Cup campaign with a convincing win against Panama this weekend as the South American giants look to stomp their authority on this summer’s finals.

Brazil are yet to win a Women’s World Cup and now head into this game with a relatively easy group consisting of Panama, Jamaica and France. The French will be a tough test, but the South American side should ease to all three points in the other games.

All attention in the Brazil setup at this World Cup turns to the all-time leading goalscorer in Women’s World Cup history, Marta.

Regarded as one of the best to ever do it in the female game, the six-time FIFA World Player of the Year has scored 17 goals at World Cup finals since 2003 and has stated that this is likely her final one.

Brazil have, however, had a tough time in 2023. They lost two of their SheBelieves Cup games after a 2-0 loss to Canada and a 2-1 defeat against United States, meaning their only win in that competition was in a 1-0 victory over Japan that saw Debora Cristiane de Oliveira score the game’s only goal.

Ever since, however, they club have managed to defeat Germany in a friendly after a finish each in the first half from Tamires Cassia de Britto and Ary Borges.

Brazil have also defeated Chile in the past month, as Gabi Nunes, Duda Sampaio, Luana and Geyse all scored a goal each in a convincing 4-0 win.

The country also saw a defeat come in the Finalissima final against England after Andressa Alves scored in the 93rd minute to equalise for Brazil before a penalty shootout loss against them at Wembley Stadium.

As for Panama, however, things have been even worse for them in 2023. They have already suffered four defeats this season, three of which have all come in the past month after a loss to Colombia during June.

They would go on to draw with Colombia, although they managed to smash Gibraltar 7-0 shortly after.

Ironically, Panama was beaten 7-0 by Spain shortly afterwards, as they were also beaten 5-0 by Japan just less than 10 days ago. The nation did also win the Women's World Cup Intercontinental play-off games, beating Papua New Guinea in the semi-finals before a win against Paraguay in the final.
