The penultimate round of matches in the first group games of the 2023 Women’s World Cup take place on the 24th of July and include the meeting between Germany W and Morocco W.
This is a match in Group H and the other two teams, South Korea and Colombia, meet the following day.

Germany W come into the tournament on the back of a 3-2 defeat in a friendly game against Zambia W. The Germans found themselves 2-0 down after 54 minutes and made several changes in the second half to try and get back into the match.
The changes worked and Germany W scored twice in added time at the end of the game only to concede a third goal in the 112th minute.
The defeat against Zambia W was the second defeat in 3 games for Germany W having also lost 2-1 against Brazil W in a friendly. Sandwiched between the two losses there was a 2-1 victory over Vietnam W.
Germany W had little trouble in qualifying for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and they finished top of their group on 27 points.
They won 9 of their 10 qualifying fixtures, with the only loss coming away against Serbia W. Trends show Germany W have won 4 of their last 5 Women’s World Cup games and they were eliminated at the quarter final stage by Sweden in the 2019 tournament.
Morocco W enter the 2023 Women’s World Cup having lost 1-0 in a friendly match against Jamaica W.
It was another friendly game without a win for Morocco W and they have failed to win any of their 5 most recent fixtures, all of which have been friendlies. There have been defeats against Czech Republic W, Romania W, and Jamaica W plus draws with Italy W and Switzerland W.
Morocco W qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup via the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Having advanced to the knockout stage from their group, Morocco W reached the final, beating Botswana W in the quarter final and Nigeria W in the semi-final. Morocco W lost 2-1 to South Africa W in the final but their performance in the tournament was enough to qualify.
Morocco W will be making their debut at the 2023 Women’s World Cup and this will be the first match they have played in the competition.
Looking ahead to the team news and Germany W will start with captain and leading scoring Alexandra Popp in attack. Several of the VfL Wolfsburg W team who finished runners-up in the 2022/23 Women’s Champions League are in the squad.
Morocco W are likely to start with captain Ghizlane Chebbak alongside Ibtissam Jraïdi in the forward positions. The experienced Khadija Er-Rmichi of AS FAR will play in goal.
