The 2023 Women’s World Cup begins on the 20th of July and three days into the tournament we have our first Group F fixture, between France W and Jamaica W.
The game will be played at the Sydney Football Stadium and the other two teams in the group, Brazil W and Panama W, will meet on the following day.

France W come into the match having lost 1-0 to co-hosts Australia W in a friendly game on the 14th of July.
With the score 0-0 at half time, Australia W scored in the 66th minute and the French could not find a way back into the match in the final 24 minutes.
The defeat against Australia W ended a run of 3 straight victories for France W, with the previous wins coming over Colombia W, Canada W, and Republic of Ireland W.

France were one of four teams who finished 2023 Women’s World Cup qualifying in Europe with a 100% record.

Jamaica W have played one friendly match ahead of the tournament and they beat Morocco W 1-0. The game was played at the Venue B.T. Connor Reserve in Melbourne and it was an important confidence booster for the Jamaican players ahead of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The win over Morocco W was the first victory for Jamaica W 8 matches. They have lost 6 of their last 8 games in all competitions, with the defeats coming against Spain W, Czech Republic W, and Australia W in the FFA Cup of Nations plus El Salvador W and Mexico W in the CAC Women’s Games.
Jamaica W were also beaten 2-1 by Paraguay W in a friendly and got a draw against Puerto Rico in the CAC Women’s Games.
This will be the second time Jamaica W have played in the Women’s World Cup. They lost all 3 of their fixtures in the 2019 Women’s World Cup, going down against Brazil W, Italy W, and Australia W.
