Shonan Bellmare will visit Yokohama in desperate need of a win. The visitors are on a three-game losing streak in the league.
Shonan Bellmare won just two matches in the opening 18 fixtures of the season. Unless Bellmare improve quickly, they will likely be relegated this season.
Yokohama F. Marinos posted a record of 3W-2D-1L against Shonan Bellmare in the teams’ last six head-to-head meetings. The teams met earlier this season in the J1 League with Shonan Bellmare picking up a shock 1-1 draw at home.
Marinos opened the scoring through Anderson Lopes in the 65th minute, but Bellmare scored with nine minutes to play courtesy of Akito Suzuki. Yokohama F. Marinos couldn’t put Shonan Bellmare away, and it could be a result that comes back to haunt them in the title race.
Yokohama took 15 points from the last 15 points on offer in the league. Three of the last five matches ended as wins to nil. The team’s defence is playing well, although it has been guilty of conceding goals from time to time this season.
Marinos conceded 20 times in their opening 18 matches. It is the seventh-fewest goals total in the league but is still more than is expected from the league leader. Marinos have scored the second-most goals this term, with 36.
Shonan Bellmare are guilty of conceding the most goals in the J1 League. They conceded 38 goals in their opening 18 fixtures.
They conceded four or more goals in each of the last two J1 League matches.
Marinos manager Kevin Muscat will likely be without defender Ryotaro Tsunoda following a metatarsal injury.
Right-back Ryuta Koike is out with a knee cap fracture. Meanwhile, striker Lopes leads the team in goals with 13. He scored in the reverse fixture.
Shonan Bellmare defender Takuya Okamoto is nursing an injury and may miss the fixture. Midfielder Masaki Ikeda is also a doubt following an injury.
Yokohama F. Marinos should continue their good form in the J1 League with a 2-1 win over Shonan Bellmare. The visitors could put a fright into Marinos, but in the end, the home side should prevail.
