Santos will welcome Bahia to the Urbano Caldeira Stadium this Wednesday with the two clubs set to clash in their Copa do Brasil round of 16 first leg with both sides still struggling slightly in their Serie A campaign.
There have been only six games so far in the Brazilian Serie A with Santos now heading into their next league game down in seventh with just three wins on the board.
Two of those wins, however, have come in the past week with them defeating Vasco da Gama on the road in the last outing thanks to a finish from Deivid Washington. Santos had 70% of the ball that day with 23 shots and nine of those hitting the target.
Prior to that win, the club also beat Bahia, and that will give them great confidence in getting through this two-legged affair.
Washington scored after four minutes that day before a goal from Stiven Mendoza after 14 minutes. Angelo Gabriel also netted in the second half of the game in a match that saw the club ease to all three points against Wednesday's opponents.
In the third round, Santos beat Botafogo across two legs with a 2-0 win away from home coming in before a 1-0 home victory. The second round saw them ease past Igatu 3-0 in what was just one leg.
As for Bahia, they lost to Flamengo 3-2 time out in a game that saw the club have 20 shots and get two red cards.
Rezende and Victor Hugo Soares dos Santos both received their marching orders towards the end of that home loss.
Gabriel Texeira and Ademir scored a goal each in the 3-2 loss to Flamengo and this now keeps the club down in 14th after 14 games in the Serie A.
Having lost to Santos before that, Bahia's last win came in a 3-1 victory over Coritiba that saw Texeira score again before a goal from David Duarte just three minutes later.
They also schooled Volta Redonda 6-1 on aggregate across the two legs of their last Copa do Brasil outing. The first leg ended in a 2-1 victory before beating Redonda 4-0 back at home.
