San Lorenzo started the Argentina Primera Division in fine form with 20 points from the opening 10 matches. The Saints are second in the standings ahead of Wednesday’s match with Boca Juniors.
A win and River Plate loss or draw would help San Lorenzo cut the gap to the top of the table. Currently, River Plate are four points ahead of San Lorenzo in the title race.
Boca Juniors have not started the Primera Division season as well. Juniors are the reigning Primera Division champions, having won the 2022 edition of the competition by two points over Racing.
The last six matches between San Lorenzo and Boca Juniors ended in two wins, two draws, and two defeats apiece. The Saints are on a two-match winning streak against Boca Juniors. Last season, San Lorenzo won 2-1 at home and the season before, the Saints picked up a 2-0 win at La Bombonera.
San Lorenzo took 11 points from the last 18 points on offer in the division. They outscored their last six opponents 9-3. The Saints are the best home team in the Primera Division after five home matches. They took 13 points out of 15 points on offer.
Boca Juniors started the season slowly. They took seven points from the last 18 points on offer in the league, scoring eight goals and conceding seven times. Three of Boca’s last four matches in the Primera ended in defeat.
The Buenos Aires’ club has had a revolving door of managers in recent times. Hugo Ibarra took over last season in the middle of the campaign and led Boca to the title. He was sacked in late March and Mariano Herron was installed as interim boss.
In the last 24 hours, Boca Juniors appointed Jorge Almiron as the new manager. Wednesday’s match against San Lorenzo will be his first of the campaign with the Buenos Aires team.
Boca Juniors scored just 13 goals in the opening 10 games. Three of those goals were scored by Luca Langoni. He should start on the right wing. However, Almiron may change the Boca formation. The team played 4-3-3 under Ibarra and Herron.
San Lorenzo’s defence has been excellent this season. It conceded just five goals in the opening 10 games. Meanwhile, Andres Vomberger and Adam Bareiro lead the team in goals with three apiece.
San Lorenzo are in excellent form, while Boca Juniors are on their second manager of the campaign. The Saints should win for a third straight game versus Boca, posting a 2-0 win.
