Scotland and Spain will be looking to build on their respective winning starts to Euro 2024 qualifying when they meet at Hampden Park on Tuesday evening.

The Scots kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Cyprus, while the Spaniards produced the same scoreline to dispatch Norway.

With Scotland and Spain sitting pretty at the summit of Group A, both sides will be eager to pick up a positive result to wrap up the first batch of qualifiers.

Scotland dished up a dominant performance to get the better of Cyprus on Saturday, registering 62% possession and 11 shots – six of which were on target.

John McGinn opened the scoring midway through the first half before Scott McTominay came off the bench to bag a late brace and add gloss to the victory.

Steve Clarke’s men have now avoided defeat in each of their last six European Championship qualifiers, thanks to a strong end to the previous campaign.

It is also worth noting that Scotland have won four of their last six games across all competitions, with 11 victories coming in their previous 17 outings.

Like Scotland, Spain took an early lead in their first match before benefitting from a brace from a substitute, as Joselu netted a double after Dani Olmo’s opener.

La Roja racked up 64% possession and 13 attempts on Saturday, limiting Norway to just two shots on target in Malaga.

Spain are now unbeaten in each of their past 19 European Championship qualifiers, having claimed eight wins and two draws during Euro 2020 qualifying.

Following a disappointing World Cup in Qatar – losing to Japan before falling to Morocco – Spain will be desperate to establish some consistency under new head coach Luis de la Fuente.

Head-to-head: Scotland have failed to beat Spain since 1985, with La Roja recording three wins and two draws since then.

It is also worth pointing out that Spain have lost just one of their past 10 matches against Scotland, with the Spaniards claiming five victories during that period.

Team news: Scott McTominay is expected to start for Scotland after coming off the bench to bag a brace last time out, with Ryan Jack likely to drop out of the XI.

Spain are also expected to make changes on Sunday, meaning Mikel Oyarzabal, Joselu, Yeremy Pino and Fabian Ruiz could start after coming off the bench against Norway.

Although Scotland gave a good account of themselves against Cyprus, Spain will pose a completely different threat altogether.

Forebet predicts that Spain will claim all three points at Hampden Park, scoring over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
