Scotland will kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with what should be an easy night's work at Hampden Park with the Scots aiming to make it to back-to-back European Championships for first time since the 1990s.

Scotland last made it to consecutive tournaments at continental level when they qualified for Euro 1992 and Euro 1996. They did, however, have a tough time of things back at Euro 2020, with their only positive result being a 0-0 draw to the finalists England.

The Scots have now also not played a game since losing 2-1 to Turkey back in a friendly during the World Cup which they failed to qualify for. John McGinn scored a goal in the second half of that 2-1 loss.

Back in the Nations League, Scotland actually had a relatively positive time. They finished top of a group where they were not expected too, as they secured four wins, drew once and lost the other game by scoring 11 goals and letting in five.

Steve Clarke led his side to famous wins over Ireland and Ukraine, scoring five goals and letting in just two across those games, although they were also beaten 3-0 in Dublin by Ireland.

Clarke’s side did also come within touching distance of qualifying for the World Cup but lost to Ukraine in a playoff battle 3-1 at Hampden Park.

There are some notable absentees for Scotland heading into these set of fixtures, as Jack Hendry is out injured, while Craig Gordon missed out on a callup.

Calvin Ramsey is also out injured alongside David Turnbull, and Ross Stewart hasn't made it back in time either with yet another injury. Goalscoring attention will now fall on the shoulders of Lyndon Dykes, Ryan Christie and Che Adams.

As for Cyprus, they head into this one off the back of just one win in their Nations League campaign and without a game since the conclusion of that competition in September. In that final game, the nation saw a 5-1 demolition against Kosovo away from home.

Cyprus did manage to stun Greece 1-0 just before this and secured a 2-2 draw against the odds against Northern Ireland just prior to that. Nevertheless, not much is expected of them in these Euro 2024 qualifiers and it would be nothing short of a miracle if they were to qualify here.

Forebet predicts a win for Scotland and for the game to see over 2.5 goals.
