Marseille Expected to Ease Past Montpellier in Ligue 1

Following on from fantastic victories in Ligue 1 over the past week, Montpellier and Marseille will meet once more at the Stade de la Mosson as both sides moved further up the league table in late December.

Montpellier registered arguably their best result of the season on Thursday evening, as they eased past Lorient away from home in a 2-0 win. Tedy Savanier scored the opening goal that day after three minutes, before Elye Wahi scored a goal after 22 minutes gone in the game.

The managerless Montpellier have been in great form ever over the past few months, and this win over Lorient now means the club come into this one in 12th

In fact, they sit only two points behind Clermont Foot in 11th and three adrift of Reims in 10th. The club are, however, still quite a distance from Lorient in seventh, as Montpellier sit 11 points adrift of them.

The recent victory for the home side here also came after smashing Rodez 5-0 in a friendly during the World Cup, as they also lost to Lens on December 10th.

In fact, with 1-1 draws against Reims and Clermont Foot, the 12th-placed side head into this game without the taste of a competitive defeat since late October.

Things have been very different for Marseille this season and they now sit in third after a sensational win against Toulouse.

Valentin Rongier scored in the first half for the French giants, before Saed Kolasinac, Dimirti Payet, Cengiz Under and Nuno Tavares all scored a goal in the second half, alongside an own goal from Toulouse too.

The 6-1 win is not quite the biggest victory in Ligue 1 this season, but for Igor Tudor's men, it was their biggest statement in the top three so far as they now sit behind Lens in second by four points and ahead of Rennes in fourth by two points.

Marseille are also coming into this game having now scored the most goals in Ligue 1 after the league leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.

The club have bagged 32 goals in 16 games this season and lost only three times, drawn three other games and won the other 10. Marseille have also let in just 14 goals too.

Forebet predicts a comfortable win here for the relentless Marseille and for the game to see over 2.5 goals as the club aim to keep the pressure on Lens just above them.
