The topflight clubs in England are back in action following the 2022 World Cup and on the 21st of December we have meeting between Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth. This is a fourth round League Cup tie and it will be played at St. James' Park.

Newcastle United come into the game having previously played competitively on the 12th of November in the Premier League against Chelsea. The Magpies recorded an excellent 1-0 win and the only goal of the game was scored in the 67th minute.

As things stand in the Premier League, Newcastle United are competing for a top four place.

The win over Chelsea means Newcastle United are undefeated in their last 11 fixtures in all competitions. They have come out on top in each of their last 6 matches, including a penalty shootout victory over Crystal Palace at home in the third round of the League Cup.

Only Manchester United have prevented Newcastle United from winning in their last 9 matches in all competitions.

Home form shows Newcastle United have won their last 5 games, including the penalty shootout win over Crystal Palace. However, they will want to improve on their recent home form in the League Cup that has seen Newcastle United lose  3 of their last 5 League Cup fixtures on home soil.

It is worth noting all 3 defeats came via a penalty shootout following draws.

AFC Bournemouth make the long trip north to St. James' Park having won their most recent fixture which was at home against Everton in the Premier League. Having opened the scoring in the 18th minute, AFC Bournemouth doubled their advantage 7 minutes later and added a third goal in the second half.

It was a good win for AFC Bournemouth and it came on the back of a 4-1 home victory over the same opposition in the League Cup a few days earlier. AFC Bournemouth were 2-0 up going into the final 25 minutes and Everton got one back. However, it was The Cherries who finished stronger to score 2 goals in the final 12 minutes.

The wins over Everton are the only 2 victories from their last 7 matches in all competitions. Away form shows AFC Bournemouth have failed to win any of their last 4 games and they have lost 5 of their last 6 away League Cup fixtures.

Team news and Newcastle United are expected to be without the injured quartet of Joelinton, Fabian Schär, Paul Dummett, and Alexander Isak.

AFC Bournemouth have three players unavailable, with Neto, Lloyd Kelly, and David Brooks forced to sit this one out.

Having home advantage could be a key factor in this game and we expect a big crowd to cheer Newcastle United to victory. We should see plenty of goals and this match could have over 3.5 goals with both teams scoring.
