Another Win for Greece to Set to Secure Top Spot Against Cyprus

Greece will aim to confirm top spot in their Nations League League C Group 2 division with them winning every game ahead of a trip to the GSP Stadium this weekend where the winless Cyprus awaits them.

It has been a topsy-turvy campaign for Cyprus, because although they haven’t won a game, they are still level on points with Northern Ireland having drawn with the Green and White Army twice so far.

A further loss to Greece and to Kosovo does keep them bottom of the table, however, with Cyprus only scoring twice so far and letting in seven goals to put them behind Northern Ireland on goals difference.

These two met two games back in June, and it was Greece who ran riot. Anastasios Baksetas, Dimitris Limnios, and Vangelis Pavlidis all scored a goal each in the game.

What’s more, Greece found themselves with 67% of the ball and had eight shots on target, with Cyprus registering only two shots on target that day.

Worse yet for the away side here, their recent 2-2 draw with Northern Ireland saw them score their only two goals of the campaign, so now they are in a position where they have played four games and scored in only one of them.

Andronikous Kakoullis scored both of the goals that day for them. On the other hand, Cyprus did in fact lead the game against Northern Ireland 2-0, with two late goals from Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair breaking Cypriot hearts.

Greece, however, are the only side in the Nations League this season with a perfect record.

Every other side who has played three or more games have ended up losing or drawing one in the midst of their winning form, while Greece have won all four games and not even conceded a single goal.

They kicked things off with two consecutive 1-0 wins over Northern Ireland and then Kosovo.

That 3-0 win over Cyprus would come soon after, before they defeated Kosovo 2-0. Greece now have a four-point gap on Kosovo, and a win here would confirm top spot for them in third Nations League group and therefore promote them into League B.

It’s near impossible to see how a Greece side who haven’t let a goal in will end up losing this game.

Forebet predicts a victory for the unbeaten side here on home soil with the game also expected to see under 2.5 goals.
