Following on from one of the most intense ends to a Serie A game in recent history, Salernitana will meet Lecce with full confidence with another draw in the bag away to Juventus just as Lecce sit winless in Serie A still.
It’s already been a disastrous campaign for the travelling side here. On the other hand, Lecce did have a decent transfer window that saw them bring in names like Samuel Umtiti.
However, the club are still without a win and it doesn’t look like it will be coming anytime soon.
Now, after six games, Lecce have netted only four times in the league and their winless run is also met with the fact they lost to Cittadella 3-2 in the Coppa Italia at the start of the season.
In fact, with the likes of Monza getting a win in the Coppa Italia, Lecce are arguably Serie A’s worst team this season.
The only points Umtiti and co. have managed to accumulate to this point have been against Empoli, Napoli and the fellow winless Serie A side, Monza.
All three games ended in a 1-1 draw, but in a draw with fellow struggles Monza and the title-chasing Napoli, there doesn’t seem to even be any consistency in them getting a draw.
On the other hand, Salernitana are now up into 10th after their sensational draw at the Juventus Stadium keeps them just three points behind the Turin giants and with just the one loss in Serie A so far.
At the same time, Salernitana have just one win so far, and with a further four draws too, they have already managed to create a five-point gap on the relegation zone.
Salernitana led 2-0 in Turin against Juventus last time out as it looked like the club were about to register their greatest Serie A win.
They ended up taking just a point from Turin, however, following on from Leonardo Bonucci’s 93rd-minute equaliser. Federico Fazio was also one of three late red cards after the chaos that ensued following the 96th-minute VAR call that saw Juventus’ winner cancelled out in dramatic style.
Despite the form, it does look as if Salernitana are going to struggle to keep up this form of draws. Eventually they will need to win, and against a Lecce side desperate to do just that, this game is a tough one to call.
