Now, after a midweek 2-0 win against Ajaccio to move into fifth place, Montpellier host Lille in Ligue 1 play. Montpellier are seeking a first win in seven tries against Lille in all competitions.

Les Dogues have been inconsistent this season. The club continued to sell off the players from its title winning campaign in 2021-22, adding new squad members to rebuild the squad.
Lille have picked up seven points from 15 points available this season. After five games, they sit eighth in Ligue 1’s standings. In midweek, Lille surprisingly lost 2-1 to a poor Nice side. It was their second loss in three matches.
Montpellier have played three times at home this season picking up six points from nine on offer. Six goals have been scored and four conceded at home by Montpellier.
Lille, on the other hand, have played twice on the road, picking up four points from six points available. Les Dogues have scored four goals and conceded twice on the road in 2022-23.
Last season, Lille did the league double over Montpellier by a score of 3-1. Les Dogues went to Montpellier and posted a 1-0 victory. Lille have won their last three away matches against Montpellier in all competitions.
In addition, there were over 2.5 goals scored in eight of Lille's last nine Ligue 1 games. This weekend’s matchday No. 6 game has the potential for goals between Montpellier and Lille.
Paulo Fonseca took charge of Lille in the offseason. He uses a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jonathan David leading the line. David has two goals this season while Jonathan Bamba has three.
Midfielder Remy Cabella is a doubt due to a thigh injury for Fonseca. Meanwhile, Forward Timothy Weah is ruled out with a foot injury until the end of September.
Montpellier are led in goals by Elye Wahi with three. Coach Olivier Dall’Oglio is in his second season at Montpellier. He has a long list of possible absentees for the game.
