The French top flight action continues on Sunday and features this upcoming Ligue 1 clash between Nice and Marseille when the two teams meet at the Allianz Riviera with the hosts still in search of picking up their first win of this new Ligue 1 campaign.

However, Nice registered a vital win in midweek in their Europa Conference League clash against Israeli outfit Maccabi Tel Aviv, eventually winning 2-0 in extra time to secure a place in the group stage of the competition, so this comes as a timely boost for this clash against Marseille on the weekend.

On the domestic front, Nice have made a slow start to this season’s Ligue 1 campaign as the hosts have picked up just two points from their opening three games, thanks to draws with Toulouse and Strasbourg.

But they were handed a 1-0 loss away from home at Clermont last weekend.

Nice will therefore be eager to return to home soil and their Allianz Riviera ground as they have lost just twice in their last 11 home games in the French top flight, picking up seven wins in the process.

But the hosts are expected to be without forward, Gouiri, who was sent off in midweek.

Marseille by contrast have enjoyed a productive start to their new Ligue 1 campaign as the visitors have chalked up seven points from their opening three league games, winning two of these three matches as well.

Victories over Reims and Nantes have been either side of a 1-1 draw away from home at Brest and Marseille currently sit in 3rd place in the early Ligue 1 standings as a result and will no doubt be keen to continue this promising start away at Nice on Sunday.

Marseille thumped Reims 4-1 at home in their opening fixture of this new Ligue 1 season and recorded a 2-1 win against Nantes but both of these wins were registered on home soil at their Stade Orange Vélodrome.

The visitors have failed to win their last two outings on the road, losing 2-0 at Rennes and the aforementioned 1-1 draw at Brest.

The visitors are likely to be without defender, Gigot, though as he was shown a red card in their last game against Nantes.

Nice are unbeaten in their last three meetings at home against Marseille, winning two of these games.

So the hosts could find some joy at last on home soil this Sunday afternoon in what could be a low-scoring and scrappy affair.
