The French top flight action continues on Sunday and features this upcoming Ligue 1 clash between Brest and Montpellier when the two teams meet at the Stade Francis-Le Blé with the prospect of a few goals on the cards here.

Brest have made a mixed start to this new Ligue 1 campaign as the hosts have won, drawn and lost in equal measure in their opening three league games of this new term, losing 3-2 away from home at Lens in their opening fixture before a 1-1 draw at home with Marseille and last weekend’s 3-1 win away at Angers.

Overall, 11 goals have been scored in Brest’s three fixtures to date, while seven of Brest’s last 12 league matches have also produced over 2.5 goals.

And as Brest have managed just two wins from their last eight home games, a Brest win here seems fairly unlikely.

Brest are also expected to be missing defender, Fadiga, midfielder, Del Castillo and former Huddersfield Town forward, Mounie, through injuries.

Montpellier began their Ligue 1 campaign in winning fashion as they registered a 3-2 home win against Troyes as they opened their account on the opening day of the new French top flight season but results since then have taken a turn for the worse.

Back to back defeats to PSG 5-2 away from home and a 2-1 loss at home to Auxerre soon followed, making it now three points from their opening three league games.

So Montpellier will be keen to return to winning ways at Brest on Sunday afternoon.

However, with just one win picked up from their previous 12 matches overall in Ligue 1, a run that includes nine defeats, the best option appears to dip into the goals market for this clash where Montpellier are concerned.

Eight out of Montpellier’s last 12 matches in Ligue 1 have also produced over 2.5 goals and having also conceded 2 goals or more in each of their last six away matches (which Montpellier have lost), further goals look likely on Sunday at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.

Defender, Mendes, along with forward pair, Mavididi and Delaye are all missing with injuries while midfielders Fayed and Savanier (2 goals) are both suspended following red cards.

Historically, goals have featured in the majority of previous exchanges between Brest and Montpellier with no fewer than six of the last seven meetings seeing over 2.5 goals and Sunday could be no exception.
