The Scottish Premiership champions will be aiming to capture title number 53 this season as they meet with one of the league’s most underperforming sides of the last campaign as Celtic welcome Aberdeen to Celtic Park on the opening day.

The Hoops returned back to their glorious best last season as they lost the title the season prior to Rangers following on from winning so many in a row.

Celtic immediately won the title back from their arch rivals, however, and they did so with a four-point margin.

At earlier stages in 2022, the gap was much bigger between the two Old Firm sides, but following on from a few draws and a defeat, Celtic only narrowly won the title back.

This came with the club winning 29 of the 38 games and losing only three times with six draws coming their way too.

What's more, they registered a stunning 93 points in the process and although this was much lower than the 102 of Rangers last year, it’s still a fantastic effort and one of their best in recent years.

Ange Postecoglou had a tremendous debut season as a result, and with him well welcomed by Celtic fans, they will also come into this new season off the back of a fantastic preseason that saw them not lose one of their six games.

The club got things going with a marvellous 7-0 win over Wiener Viktoria, before drawing with Rapid Wien 3-3 and beating Banik 4-2.

They then met with fellow UK sides and by drawing with Blackburn Rovers 2-2 and beating Norwich City 2-0, they sent out a stark reminder to the rest of Scotland that they are the best around. The Hoops also drew 2-2 with Legia Warsaw just two weeks ago.

As for Aberdeen, it was one of their worst seasons in recent times as they finished in the relegation round and only two places away from the bottom of the table.

It was also the first time the club had finished outside of the top four in the past decade, which all but sums up just how poor they were in 2021/22.

Needless to say off the back of such a dreadful campaign and a fantastic effort from Celtic, that the home side are the favourites here. Forebet predicts the champions to get off to a winning start and for the game to see over 2.5 goals
